Also, have you guys noticed the cars are getting smaller??? No more 1970s Cadillacs, Ford LTDs, Buicks and Impalas! Are we really down to imports and mid size cars??

Going to start unloading the pics I have saved from the old thread, and by no means do I take credit for scanning or taking the pics, let it be known, just trying to regroup what we had. So please, I don't mean to step on anybody whom posted these pics. Just trying to help out the board. I hope everyone who was involved, does not mind, and if there should be a problem, please contact me and I will remove pics. Trevor

Now we're gettin pics that weren't in the old thread? What the crap? Was Mud Rat in even in the old thread?

Somebody should get a hold of Jeff Strand and tell him we're starting an Old School Pic Thread. Maybe he'll just start over again, no questions asked?

Yes, but those are great aren't they? I know we aren't allowed to call it the first monster truck here, but since it is the first "66 inch tired recreational vehicle" it is awsome that it is on the new thread at the beginning. Thanks for those Trevor.:D Steve

Much like MUD RAT, I know we are not allowed to call this the "first" car crush, BUT here is Jeff Dane driving over a car in April, 1980 about a year before Bigfoot. By no means am I calling this a "car crush" I am simply posting a picture of a pickup with large tires driving over a car.:D:D This was Jeff's second attempt but first photographed. More good pictures for the beginning of a new thread. Enjoy,Steve

I agree about replying to and resending pics, just try to post a reply to the username and they will try and answer. About MudRat, it might have had a pic or 2 of it in the old thread, but I just found these pics of an arrowhead mud bog in an old photo album of my parents. They also have some good shots of gravelrama, but no monsters at either event, this was pre- Bigfoot days. Trevor

yes and i think it fited the theme of Snake Bite as it was kinda of a underdog truck that was staying competetive

I figured I should post a couple pics of my own. The first two, well, aren't exactly what you call "pictures", but more like giant trading cards almost. They were given to me a LONG time ago, when the Grave Digger team actually rolled through town and stopped by my dad and uncle's auto shop, most likely because of their wacky car creations. I have no clue which driver or truck it was, but I'm told it wasn't Dennis, so it may have been Lyle Hancock or perhaps someone else. I was probably 2 years old at the time, so it was most likely 1992. I have also seen Bigfoot in town at least once or twice, but I don't really remember that either.

Anyway, the third picture is just a handful of some of my classic TNT era Monster Truck trading cards. Trust me, there's a whole lot more. Well, enjoy.

For witch reason Intimidator don't figure on the video. The truck broke before the competition? Or he were simply cut off from the video?

Sorry, no specs or anything information on it. These are by far the most detailed pics that you are going to find of the truck unless you track down the old owner. They are very rare photos of a rare truck. This was the first ever truck that is known to run 66" monster tires on it. Trevor

Same here. I like the gallery idea but not as a replacement for this thread.:(
The thread kind of takes it's own course and people add and comment at will if it is just the gallery that can't happen and this thread doesn't serve a purpose. If it is one or the other than screw the gallery and leave this like it was before it was deleted. It wasn't broke before. If all there will be is a gallery then call it "Dennis Taft's". I was afraid this was going to be the case but hoped I was just misunderstanding.Do all the other threads still get to use photos? The people that enjoyed this thread were not the ones at fault for the screwup. Steve

Who said the thread would end? Who said the thread would close or cease to exist? All I asked is to post the images over at the gallery as well. You do, great, you don't then you don't.

The gallery has the capability to have full threaded comments. You can rate images, you can have the images in each catagory presented to you in a slide show. It is an addded feature not replacing anything.

Talk about over reacting :Surprised:

BiteMeStudios
August 17th, 2009, 01:50 PM
Just to clarify, since it might be unclear to some (instead of just ranting on it), the mods of this board have requested that we no longer hit the quote button when responding to pictures. This causes the picture to be displayed twice, thus eating up twice the bandwidth of the site. Web pages are limited in the amount of data that can be transferred back and forth each month...this in known as bandwidth. When pictures are displayed two, three even four times over, you can see where this site can get VERY expensive very quickly. I hope this makes sense.

I would say late, late 87 or what we now call First quarter 88, just by the fact that GM didnt start selling the GMT400 platform pickup till Summer 87 as an 88 year model IIRC, so it would have to have been one of the early events for that particular Bear Foot truck, in fact, im shooting for late 87 seeing as how USA-1 #1 is there and not USA-1 #2, then again, it could have been at another event, but late 87, early 88 would be my guess.

It's definitely '89, USA-1 used to run the original in these little shows when USA-1 II was out with TNT running for their poiints series. The newer paint and front clip on Virginia Giant, as well as the Orange Blossom Special being there gives the year away as '89. The one thing that confuses me is that it was a USHRA show, and I had remembered hearing somewhere that Everett Jasmer stopped doing shows for USHRA in '87 due to personal differences. Jasmer did sign on for the Japan show in '89 though, so maybe this show was part of that deal too?

A few one of hammer time. The Arel brothers brought the truck for 15000$ as Daniel Arel said to me. On the pics, it's Daniel Arel on the driver seat for the test run.

Not sure if this qualifies but it's one of the oldest pics off Eradicator I have. When was the truck built?
Was it built just after Bigfoot 1 or later on?

Last question.......

Is it more original than Bigfoot 1? - because of all the modifications & rebuilds done on Big Foot 1 over the years.

Yes, Super Monster was built by Bigfoot 4x4. But it was built after Bigfoot III. It was completed in 1984 and shipped over seas.

Yes this truck remains pretty well untouched. I have an article about this truck which was printed in 4wheel and off road in either 84 or 85.

I guess there is the possibility that the frame might be bent to cause that. Or it could just be that at one point the front clip was removed and when it was put back on they never adjusted it properly.

Yes, but those are great aren't they? I know we aren't allowed to call it the first monster truck here, but since it is the first "66 inch tired recreational vehicle" it is awsome that it is on the new thread at the beginning. Thanks for those Trevor.:D Steve

I have a question on something that is bugging me for quite some time.

Mud Rat is the first truck with 66 inch tires - making it the first custom built "monster truck".
Also, Mud Rat is the first rear engined "monster truck".

King Kong is the first truck with large tires to "crush" a couple of cars - a year before Bigfoot did it.

Here is the question:

Why is Bigfoot considered as being "the first monster truck" & for doing "the first known car crush"

Mud Rat & King Kong must take credit for those.

Daniel G
August 21st, 2009, 05:41 AM
Simply because Bigfoot is the first truck to be widely recognize by the public.

I follow monster truck since 25 years now and I've never heard about Mud Rat before this post...

When you are the most popular, you can say all what you want. Even in the Bigfoot videos, Bob and Jimmy repeat that Bigfoot is the first and all the others follows and copy. And they constantly show the first Bigfoot car crush video and mention that is the first ever car crush.

Often, it's the bigger one or the most popular who write history and the story is always at his advantage.

MudRat was just that...a mud truck. It was a mud truck that happened to run 66in tires one time (maybe more...but that is totally irrelevant). There were vehicles like swamp buggies and what not on 66in tires long before Mud Rat. Were those the first monster truck? Bigfoot has never claimed to be the first vehicle to run 66's...Bob Chandler doesn't claim to have invented terra tires. Bigfoot established 66in tires as THE monster truck tire by being the first of the monster truck owners to put 66in tires on his monster truck. And that is the EXACT claim they make. As far as crushing cars...well...King Kong appears to have done it before Bigfoot. But Bigfoot was well on its way to being a household name by that point and was the first vehicle to be referred to by the name "monster truck". Ask a kid in 1981 what Bigfoot is, and there is a decent chance, even way back then, that they would say a big blue Ford. Ask that same kid what King Kong is. "Oh, that goofy fake giant monkey made out of clay." I would put my life savings, future inheritance, and my wife for trade into slavery, that someone ran over some smashed up cars long before Jeff Dane did it. They just didn't take pictures. So, hats off to you, unnamed guy in the non-existent picture. You had an entire industry and millions of dollars stolen out from under you by that lying, no-good thief in St. Louis.

Sorry, all the whining over this crap just grates on me really bad. While you can nitpick at the details, can you really argue that Bob Chandler invented this industry? Really?

Just adding more pieces to the puzzle . . .

However, I wish to ask, what does fighting over being the first monster truck gain now 30+/- years later? History can't be re-written.

There is a video of an early Jamboree. I think one at Indy. BIGFOOT I (I guess) on 66s. USA-1 on 66s and in blue. Plus some other early monsters. It is the video were BF appears to have broken an axle and gets stuck in the mud pit. Chandler driving. And an elderly woman talks about riding a monster truck.

Anyway, in this video, Chandler talks about how his truck is BIGFOOT. He says he enjoys it the way it is and he doesn't want to compete with anyone anymore.

People have to admit that when you put something exciting in front of people all the time, they will remember it. Similar to Evel Knievel. He may not have been "the first" guy to jump a motorcycle but everyone knows about him and all the things he did. Yes, he had an ego, etc.. When I had the chance to meet him, I was thrilled. No one can take away what he did.

Colby, that wasn't directed at me was it? I am just sharing pics, and I know it was the first truck to run 66"s at events, but I never said it was a Monster Truck. If you look back at the pics I don't say it was the first monster on 66"s. I just found some rare photos of my dad's and posted them up for everyone to see. Someone asked me if I had more shots, and frankly these were the best known photos I have ever seen of the truck besides the ones I have seen posted of what it looks like today. It is rare to see that truck in good quality pictures. I have seen shots of it from the front or rear but never a side shot of the truck in it's former days. I thought it was necessary for the fans to see the truck. I agree Bigfoot was and will always be the original monster truck, but Missouri had some unique creations out there all around the same time, and I like showing pics. If I came off as arrogant about the pics, that is not what I meant by displaying them. I was excited and people should be excited to see very vintage shots like that. I am done bickering, but from the way it was wrote, I took it as a stab at me. Time to get out the backyard wrestling ring! DING DING DING (lol) Trevor

I have one question about transportation. As you see with the extra gold truck, it has his 66" tires and the truck in on the trailer. In witch state (ou case) you can transport a monster truck on a trailer with their 66" tire .

And I really love the Bearfoot sport shot. If you have any pics that zoom the suspension please post them.

You can wide load in all states as long as you get the permits!!! You can usually get away with it in smaller more rural areas, I know guys who just call the local sherrif before they do it and they just tell them what hours they can do it.
