How cheap? I'd like to keep it under $1k.
Does anyone have an old Japanese parts bike that they don't want anymore? Or a basket case of parts or frame lying around that they don't need?

craigslist is your best bet. We picked up a sportster this summer for $600.

You can find cheap metric bikes all over the place. My buddy asked about a bike behind a guys house and the guy gave it to him. An old 650 Honda. My buddy fixed the carb (only real problem), did some TLC and then took off every single part that didnt have to be on it. Painted it flat black. Made some madmax looking pieces (sissy bar from chain, clutch linkage from chain, spikes, custom wacked out ape hangers) and it looks freaking cool. All in all he has about $100 in it and a weekend of time.
Make sure to post up pics!!

Will do, Jim. It'll be a while off (need to get a new job and frequent cashflow first), but I'll deffinately post some pics up for you guys.
It's a stretch from building guitars to building motorcycles, but I'm always down for a challenge. Any advice from anyone?
