I`ve been wondering this for a long while, and I`ve heard they are made through 3D Computer Models. Can anyone tell me what program they use to make the tubes?

Just about any 3d modeling software can do sweeps, which is one way to do tubing. There are others that have actual tubing programs as well. For just about any decent software package, you're looking at anywhere between $2000 and $5000 for the software and a license to run it.

Some of the more popular 3d modeling software programs are Autodesk Inventor, PTC Pro/Engineer, Solidworks, and Siemens NX.

Inventor is te way to go. You can create a wireframe and inventor has a feature that will create a structure around it.

Should probably learn to use those while I have free access to them here at UCF for another year!

I'd look at a combination of solidworks and bend tech... http://www.bend-tech.com/bt_sw.htm

Unless you want to run some FEA on it...then good luck with the napkin... Its easy enough to go from a napkin to a computer that its worth it.

I want to download a cheap program that can make basic chassis designs. What do you guys recomend? I don't want to go over $100 so if there isn't anything remotely close just tell me. I don't need any fancy features just be able to make the basic shape
